The Frescobaldi Thematic Catalogue Online
Frescobaldi (possibly): F15.29. Durezze
Scoring: Keyboard
Genre: Toccata
Key/Signature: C /♮
Main Source: Oldham MS
Notes: Bob van Asperen has speculated that this highly chromatic “durezze” was the work of Giovanni de Macque rather than Frescobaldi, and that it was composed to demonstrate the cimbalo cromatico (which permits performance of certain enharmonic equivalents in meantone). Van Asperen thinks that Frescobaldi transmitted the work to Froberger , who brought it to Louis Couperin, the scribe on the Oldham MS.
