Froberger (probably): F18.10S. Ricercar no. 35 a quattro
Scoring: Keyboard
Genre: Ricercar
Key/Signature: D /♮
Main Source: Brussels II.3908
Notes: The earliest source probably is Uppsala 410 (c. 1704-1728), with an attribution to Froberger. It appears as the first “Fuga” in the collection of “6 Fugen und 6 Capriccios von Froberger” included in four late 18c manuscripts from the Berlin Bach circle, where it is paired with a Capriccio (Adler X) on the same subject. It also make an appearance in a set of 39 ricercares attributed to Frescobaldi. Froberger’s authorship receives support from the early attribution in Uppsala 410 and the attribution of the companion Capriccio on a related subject in two late seventeenth-century prints, Mainz 1693 and 1696. In modern Froberger editions it is known as Ricercar XIV (Adler, Schott) or Fuga FbWV 414 (Rampe).
