Frescobaldi: F13.26. Corrente

Incipit 13.26

Scoring: Keyboard
Genre: Toccata
Key/Signature: C /♮
Main Source: Paris 64

Notes: Scribe: Frescobaldi. See also F 13.19. This corrente starts in C major, but spends most of its its life in D minor, to return to C at the last moment. Its first 14 measures are more of less identical to to F 13.19, after which they part ways, and at m. 15 it quotes the open melody of the beginning of F 3.33, also alluded to in F 13.16. Darbellay (2008) provides complete transcriptions of the three correnti F 13.16, F 13.19, and F 13.26 along with a hypothetical explanation of the process that might have given rise to these curious relationships.
