Zelenka: F19.16H. Miserere II, ZW 57, 2

Incipit 19.16H

Scoring: C, A, T, B, ob, ob, vn, vn, va, vc, Bc
Genre: Motet/sacred concerto
Key/Signature: C /♮
Main Source: Dresden 98

Notes: The second setting of the “Miserere mei” is an adaptation of F 12.32, repeating the entire work to accommodate the text from “Miserere mei Deus” to “super altarum virtulos,” and repeating a portion for the second time for the “Sicut erat.” Although Zelenka basically follows Frescobaldi’s score, he breaks up note values to accommodate the text, adds a continuo part, and introduces accidentals and other small modifications in accordance with the taste of his time.
