Frescobaldi (doubtful): F17.20. Canzona

Incipit 17.20

Scoring: Keyboard
Genre: Canzona
Key/Signature: G /♭
Main Source: Chigi Q.IV.24

Notes: The abbreviation Di Fr., encountered in both in 17.20 and 17.21, had been read as standing for Frescobaldi or for Francese. The insertion of an attribution referring to Frescobaldi is unlikely, however, because the MS contains several known Frescobaldi works, none of which has an attribution. Annibaldi (1990) argues that “D. Fr.” most likely stands for “Di Francesco,” and he presents a plausible case that this refers to ether Francesco Mutij or Francesco Boccalino.
