Frescobaldi (probably): F14.50. Ballo a 3

Incipit 14.50

Scoring: Vn, Vn, Archlute, Bc
Genre: Canzona
Key/Signature: G /♮
Main Source: Chigi Q.VIII.205-206

Notes: Scribe: Leonardo Castellani. 4 unbound parts designated Violino P, Violino 2o, Organo et Cembalo, and Arcileuto. The structure of this piece resembles a canzona rather than a ballo, with sections in varying meters and styles, both chordal and imitative. There are several “Piano” markings. Mm. 50 to 62 introduces a setting of the Monica tune (see F 2.14). The segment mm. 25 to the beginning of 33 is more or less identical to mm. 15 to the beginning of 23 of F 8.34c, except for doubled note values. Other than this shared passage, the two works have no musical material in common.
