Frescobaldi (disputed): F14.61. Balletto

Incipit 14.61

Scoring: Keyboard
Genre: Balletto
Key/Signature: E /♮
Main Source: Chigi Q.VIII.205-206

Notes: Scribe: Leonardo Castellani. 14.61 and 14.62 resemble Frescobaldi’s two E-minor Balletto - Corrente pairs F 2.21-22 and F 2.23-24. Although with the current foliation the Corrente precedes the Balletto, it must have been entered later, because when Leonardo Castellani ran out of space at the bottom of f 192v, he completed the piece in the space left free at the end of the Balletto on f. 193v1-2. Darbellay now believes that this pair of pieces should also be credited to Frescobaldi (private communication, 17-5-2010), although the the 1983 Frescobaldi Conference in Ferrara he had argued that it was composed by Leonardo Castellani, in imitation of the similar pieces by his mentor; se Darbellay (1986),
